EPIC’s medical necessity data format allows for only one hyperlink to the source Medicare policy on CMS. That’s helpful—but limiting.
In practice, several links are needed. For Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), both the LCD and its associated Article must be referenced. But EPIC only supports one link.
With National Coverage Determinations (NCDs), it gets even trickier. Covered codes are often buried in massive PDFs for lab services or hidden in NCD spreadsheets that aren't directly linked to the NCD itself—making them nearly impossible to find through a standard CMS hyperlink.
